Rachel stared at me like her brain had stopped functioning.
“What did you just say?”
I folded my hands calmly while the security officers approached beside me. Around us, employees slowed down awkwardly, pretending not to watch the disaster unfolding near the entrance.
“You’re terminated effective immediately,” I said.
My father laughed harshly. “You think you can fire anybody?”
One of the HR managers stepped forward nervously. “Mr. Carter, should we continue processing the access removal?”
The silence afterward felt electric.
My mother blinked rapidly. “Mr… Carter?”
I looked directly at her. “CEO Carter, actually.”
Rachel’s face drained of color instantly.
“No,” she whispered. “No, that’s impossible.”
