The dealership manager, Daniel Ruiz, walked over as Evan opened the purchase file.
Daniel glanced at the documents.
Then he stopped breathing for a moment.
At the top of the first page was a name recognized across three Texas counties:
MARY CARTER
OWNER AND CHAIRWOMAN
CARTER VALLEY FARMS
Daniel looked from the papers to Mary’s faded dress.
“You’re Mary Carter?” he whispered. “The Carter Valley Farms?”
Mary calmly signed the first page.
Before she could answer, her phone rang. The screen showed the name of the owner of the dealership that had just thrown her out.
Daniel’s eyes moved to the second document in the envelope—a fleet proposal worth far more than three SUVs.
