The mafia boss returned home earlier than expected; his maid then grabbed his arm and whispered, “Don’t make a sound.”

“Check all the parts again.”

He should be here now.

Vincent felt his blood run cold.

That voice belonged to his nephew, Marcus.

The boy that Vincent had raised after his brother’s death.

The young man he had groomed to inherit part of his empire.

The family member to whom he had entrusted his life.

Elena’s eyes reflected the same shock that Vincent had felt.

She had also recognized the voice.

But his expression shifted from surprise to something else.

Awareness.

As if this betrayal was nothing new to her.

Another voice joined Marcus’s in the room.

“He may have changed his mind.”

The old man becomes paranoid with age.

“No,” replied Marcus in a dry, authoritative tone, just as Vincent had taught him.

“He’s coming.”

Tony confirmed that he had left the warehouse an hour ago.

Vincent never deviates from his routine.

Through the crack in the door, Vincent glimpsed Marcus’s silhouette heading towards the window, parting the heavy curtains to peer into the night.

The same window where Vincent had stood countless times, contemplating his domain, believing it to be impenetrable.

Elena moved slightly and Vincent noticed something that quickened his pulse.

She was armed.

A small pistol rested on her hip, concealed beneath her simple black dress.

The cleaning lady who had served him coffee every morning for three years carried a firearm in his home.

“The trunk is clean!” shouted a third voice from across the room.

“Only cash and a few pieces of jewelry.”

Marcus laughed, but his laughter lacked warmth.

“He keeps his real secrets elsewhere.”

We need him to stay alive long enough to tell us where he is.

Vincent clenched his fists.

The empire he had built, the legacy he had protected, was being dissected by his own blood.

But the deepest horror was realizing that all of this had been planned for a long time.

How many conversations had Marcus overheard?

How many family dinners had been reconnaissance missions?

Elena brought her lips close to her ear.

“There’s something else you should know,” he murmured in a voice so deep that Vincent felt his chest tighten.

“It’s not just about money or territory.”

Part Two:
Vincent did not respond.

He stared at Elena.

In thirty years, no one had managed to surprise him twice in the same night.

Yet, in one way or another, the discreet chambermaid who folded his shirts and served him his morning espresso had already done it.

Twice.

“What do you mean?” he asked silently, without uttering a word.

Elena finally removed her hand from her mouth.

Her voice was so soft that it was barely audible.

“They’re not here to steal your empire.”

She swallowed.

“They are here to erase your lineage.”

As he stepped out of the closet, Marcus stopped walking.

“The girl,” he said.

Those words paralyzed Vincent.

“Has anyone found her?” asked Marcus.

One of the men replied.

“No.”

Marcus swore.

“We cannot leave any indelible mark.”

Vincent felt something break inside him.

His daughter.

Sofia.

The only person he ever loved more than power.

She had left the family business years before, after begging him to end the violence.

Faced with his refusal, she disappeared to another state under a new identity.

Only three people knew where he lived.

Vicente.

Frame.

And his personal lawyer.

Marcus knew it.
Of course he knew it.

Vincent himself had confided the information to him.

Elena watched the understanding reflected on Vincent’s face.

“I heard them yesterday,” he murmured.

“They’ve already hired people to find her.”

Vincent’s breathing slowed.

Everyone who knew him expected him to be furious.

Filming.

Immediate revenge.

Instead…

His face froze in an icy calm.

Because the calm Vincent Torino was the most dangerous version of all.

Outside, Marcus’s phone vibrated.
